Job Summary

The Curator of Education designs, develops, implements, and evaluates educational programming related to the exhibits and collections of the Georgia Southern University Museum. The position presents programming to museum visitors, including K-12 and University students and the general public, and trains and supervises graduate and undergraduate student employees and volunteers to ensure the delivery of quality visitor experiences. The Educator reports to the Director of the Museum and serves as a key team member working cooperatively with the Museum staff to ensure smooth daily operations and record keeping. In the absence of the Director, the Educator reports to the Assistant Director.

Responsibilities
  • Research, develop and present educational programming related to the exhibits and collections of the Museum for K-12 and University students and the general public
  • Develop educational programming in alignment with state regulated public school education performance standards and core curriculum for each grade level
  • Work as a team member with the staff to create and provide training for undergraduate and graduate student employees to assist with and present educational programming
  • Develop working relationships with area teachers and educators to ensure Museum programming is relevant and coordinated
  • Develop and maintain evaluation of educational programming
  • Schedule tours, maintain tour group calendar, and coordinate with group leaders ensuring quality experiences
  • Coordinate with Assistant Director to ensure proper business, tour group, and daily operational record keeping, and assist with the hiring, training, and, supervising of student staff
  • Serve on exhibit development teams and collaborate with staff and faculty to develop and fabricate exhibits
  • Provide general service and customer service for calls from campus and public about museum programs
  • Work as a team member to offer operational support and assist front-line staff with visitors


Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
  • Master's degree in education or related field

Required Experience
  • One (1) or more years of successful teaching experience in a school or museum setting


Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Experience
  • Experience writing lesson plans and conducting research and evaluations


Proposed Salary

$54,476

This is an exempt position paid on a monthly basis.
